Iron filter and water softener with copper and brass plumbing, the kind of water treatment we install for Waterford, MI homes

Water Service for Waterford Township Homes

Most of Waterford Township is served by community wells. Some homes still run on private wells, and some areas still allow new wells. Either way, the water comes from the ground, and we recommend water treatment for pretty much every Waterford home.

Maglothin Well & Water Treatment is a family-owned well and water company based in Ortonville, serving Waterford and the rest of Oakland, Livingston, and southern Genesee counties. We set up softeners and iron and sulfur filtration, test water, service pumps and pressure tanks for homes on private wells, and drill new wells where they’re allowed.

Why We Recommend Water Treatment in Waterford

Hard water and iron are common in Waterford-area water. Hardness leaves white scale on faucets, showerheads and inside water heaters. Iron leaves orange stains in sinks, tubs and toilets. Some homes also notice a rotten egg (sulfur) smell.

We recommend starting with a water test. It shows what your home’s water actually has, and we size a softener, an iron filter, sulfur filtration, or a combination to match, with upfront pricing before any work starts. A softener handles hardness but doesn’t remove sulfur, so if you notice a smell we’ll look at filtration for that. Learn more about water testing, water treatment and the rotten egg smell.

Still on a Private Well in Waterford?

Some Waterford homes still have their own well, with a pump, a pressure tank and a pressure switch doing the work. When the pressure drops or the water stops, we test the switch, tank, control box and pump to find the real cause before anything gets replaced.

New Wells Where Allowed

Some areas of Waterford Township still allow new private wells. If your old well can’t be saved, or you’re building where a well is allowed, we handle the new well along with the pump, tank and hookup.

Waterford Water & Well FAQ

Is Waterford on city water or wells?

Most of Waterford Township is served by community wells. Some homes are still on private wells, and some areas still allow new wells.

Do I need water treatment if I’m on Waterford community water?

We recommend it for most Waterford homes. Hardness and iron are common, and a water test shows what your home actually needs before you buy any equipment.

Will a water softener fix a rotten egg smell?

No. A softener handles hardness, but it doesn’t remove sulfur. A rotten egg smell needs filtration designed for it, and a water test tells us which setup fits.

Can I get a new well drilled in Waterford?

Some areas of Waterford Township still allow new wells, so check with the township for your property. Where a well is allowed, we’re a Michigan-registered well drilling contractor (#63-2667) and handle the new well, pump, tank and hookup.

How does pricing work?

We diagnose the problem and give you upfront pricing before any work starts, so you know exactly what the repair will cost before we do anything.
